Perfect Blades raid Prince Albert for pair pre-season victories
A pair of victories against the Prince Albert Raiders — one in a shootout — have the Saskatoon Blades sitting at a perfect 5-0 record in the Western Hockey League’s pre-season.
On Thursday night, Bradly Goethlas scored twice and Josh Paterson, Kirby Dach, Michael Farren and Braden Plaschewsky each scored once to propel the visiting Blades to a 6-3 victory.
In the Saturday night rematch in Warman, the Blades came out on top 4-3 following a shootout.
Prince Albert led 2-0 after the first period, but the Blades bounced back to to tie the game at 3-3 in the second period thanks to goals from Dach, Farren and Goethals.
Neither team was able to break the tie in the third period or the ensuing five-minute overtime period, forcing the shootout.
SALAMON UP FOR AWARD
Saskatoon track and field athlete Haylea Salamon has been named as one of 30 finalists for the NCAA’S woman-of-the-year award.
Salamon, who graduated from North Carolina’s Lenoir-rhyne University in May, was first selected as the South Atlantic Conference woman of the year in July after being nominated by her school.
With that selection, she was automatically nominated as one of 581 student-athletes for the NCAA award. On Thursday, she was announced as a finalist.
