Blades suffer season’s first loss

Three goals during a span of 16 seconds cost the Saskatoon Blades their first loss of the Western Hockey League regular season Sunday night in Prince Albert.

The host Raiders broke open a scoreless deadlock with three straight goals by Justin Nauchbaur, Ozzy Wiesblatt and Parker Kelly between the 7:30 and 7:46 mark of the second period.

Kody Mcdonald also scored for Prince Albert, which led 4-0 after two periods and out-shot Saskatoon 37-28.

Tristen Robins had the lone goal for the Blades.

With the win, the Raiders improve to 5-0-0. The Blades fell to 3-1-0.

Nolan Maier stopped 19 of 23 shots before giving way to Dorrin Luding, who turned aside all 16 shots he faced.

Saskatoon was 0-for-4 on the power play. Prince Albert went 1-for-7. Attendance was 2,117. The Blades — who hopped on a bus Monday for an Alberta road swing this week that includes four games in five nights — won’t play at home again until Friday, Oct. 12 against the Red Deer Rebels.
