Saskatoon Blades back to winning ways
After a couple of bumps on the road, the Saskatoon Blades are back to their winning ways.
The Blades snapped a two-game losing skid with a 5-3 victory Wednesday night in Edmonton over the host Oil Kings to improve to 4-2 overall in the young Western Hockey League regular season.
Eric Florchuk, with a pair of goals, Brandon Machado, Dawson Davidson and Kirby Dach scored for Saskatoon, which led 1-0 and 2-1 by periods.
Nolan Maier made 32 saves for the Blades, who went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Oil Kings were good on one of four chances. Shots on net were even at 35-35. Three stars were: Florchuk; Oil Kings’ Trey Fix-wolansky; and Davidson.
On Tuesday, the Blades were edged 5-4 by the hometown Red Deer Rebels.
The Rebels scored three unanswered goals in the second period for the win after erasing a 3-2 firstperiod lead by the Blades.
Florchuk, Josh Paterson, Kristian Roykas Marthinsen and Riley Mckay scored for Saskatoon, which was out-shot 35-33 by Red Deer.
Maier stopped 30 of 35 shots he faced in the Blades net.
Saskatoon went 2-for-5 on the power play. Red Deer was 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Blades continue their road swing Friday with a game in Calgary before heading to Lethbridge to play the Hurricanes on Saturday for their fourth road game in five nights.
