Protesters deliver second model teepee, message to government
REGINA Justice for Our Stolen Children camp protesters dropped off a second model teepee and message for the Saskatchewan government at the Legislative Building on Thursday.
In a stunt similar to the one pulled one day prior, protesters brought a small replica teepee of the one they kept outside of the building for hundreds of days before being removed, following a court order.
The first replica came with a handwritten letter addressed directly to Premier Scott Moe. The second one came with a similar message, but was addressed directly to Minister of Social Services Paul Merriman.
Thursday’s message called on Merriman to develop a full report on each child in care, including details on their cultural and developmental needs — something for which the protest group has previously asked.
In a written statement, Jim Billington, a spokesman in Moe’s office, said, “The model teepee and hand written note delivered by the Justice for our Stolen Children group were received (Thursday) morning by a member of Premier Moe’s staff and directed to Minister Merriman’s office. The hand written note will be responded to, just as Ministers respond to correspondence sent by any member of the public.”
It also said, “There are storage spaces throughout the legislative building that these models will be stored in.”
