Choose a reasonable standard speed limit

-

I drove over the new Chief Mistawasis Bridge. The speed limit changes as many as five times, ranging through 50, 60, 70, back to60then50again.

I have not seen a city that has so many different speed zones.

Recently, the police had a radar unit out on Valley Road, as they have done many times. (No, I didn’t get a ticket.) The speed limit goes from 90 coming off the freeway down to 30, then back up to 60, then back to 90 again, and yes they are giving out tickets.

The speed limit on this section of road is 60, on a divided twolane road with a median separating the two directions, through an area with no sidewalks, no foot traffic and only one building.

This is the same speed limit that goes south on Preston Avenue in Stonebridge, past a church, a Sobeys, a mall, and many other businesses. You should get a ticket if you are speeding, but how about setting some reasonable standard speed limits and quit deceiving people.

Council is looking to lower speed limits in many residential areas and some collector routes to 30 km/ h.

This will cause even more driver frustration, because now we’re going to have some drivers so worried they are going to get a ticket for going a few kilometres over the posted limit that they will drive 25 km/ h. This will only compound the anxiety of many other drivers. Jim Duffus, Saskatoon
