What’s open and closed for Remembrance Day
With November 11 falling on Sunday, the statutory holiday will be on Monday
During Remembrance Day events on Sunday, Canadians will honour and remember the brave men and women who served our country.
Since it falls on a weekend this year, the City of Saskatoon is reminding residents that numerous civic facilities will be closed on Monday.
Remembrance Day ceremonies at Sasktel Centre are set to run from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saskatoon Transit and Access Transit will provide free transportation to and from the service, thanks to Royal Bank of Canada.
City Hall will be closed on Monday, but cheques and money-order payments can be left in the drop box located outside the main entrance.
The municipal impound lot will not release vehicles to the public, and parking stations throughout the city will not require payment on Monday. Motorists are advised, however, to respect posted parking limits.
The Saskatoon Landfill will be open and operating on winter hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Sunday and Monday. Garbage collection will take place as regularly scheduled on Monday.
The east and west compost depots are closed for the season as of today.
Remain Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan will be open on Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All branches of the Saskatoon Library will be closed on Sunday for Remembrance Day, but will operate on regular hours on Monday.
Saskatoon Transit will operate with regular weekend service on both Sunday and Monday. Access Transit will offer weekend service on Sunday and holiday service on Monday.
The City of Saskatoon reminds residents that Access Transit subscriptions do not apply on statutory holidays. The Transit customer service centre will be closed for walk-in customers on Sunday, but phone lines will be open between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The customer-service centre will be open regular hours on Monday.
Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority locations on Second Avenue, in the Avalon Shopping Centre and on Idylwyld Drive will be closed on Sunday.
The Eighth Street, Lawson Heights Shopping Mall, University Heights and Confederation Drive locations will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo will operate on regular hours, with admission by donation due to the winter season. Ice rentals for Saskatoon’s indoor arenas start at noon on Remembrance Day and will operate on regular hours for public skating on Sunday and Monday.
The Cosmo Civic Centre will be closed on Sunday and open for regular hours on Monday. The Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre, Lakewood Civic Centre and Shaw Centre will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday and for regular hours on Monday.
Fitness classes and child minding are cancelled at all locations on Sunday.
The Terry Fox Track inside SaskTel Sports Centre will be closed both days.
The Lawson Civic Centre will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Saskatoon Field House will be closed due to a planned power outage on Sunday and have regular hours on Monday.
All six of the city’s civic centres will operate under regular hours on Sunday.
