Four champions were crowned at the 10th annual Bowlt Classic high school basketball tournament on the weekend in Saskatoon.
The Centennial Chargers won the girls gold pool after a 60-48 win over Melfort in the final. The Bishop Mahoney Saints defeated Weyburn 65-61 in the orange pool final.
On the boys side, the gold bracket winners were the Holy Cross Crusaders, who defeated Centennial 84-57 and the Bethlehem Stars won the orange bracket by defeating Aden Bowman 83-64.
Blades return from strong road trip
The Saskatoon Blades wrapped up their five-game B.C. road trip with a 5-4 overtime win over the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday night. The Blades finished their road trip 3-1-1 and are 17-9-3 on the season.
Saskatoon allowed a 3-0 secondperiod lead and 4-2 late third-period lead slip away on Saturday before Dawson Davidson’s second goal of the game just 23 seconds into overtime sealed the win.
Also scoring for the Blades were Gary Haden, Tristen Robins and Brandon Schuldhaus. Rockets goal scorers were Mark Liwiski, Leif Mattson, Braydyn Chizen and Kyle Topping. The goal by Topping tied the game 4-4 with 1:21 left in the third period. Nolan Maier made 29 saves in picking up his 14th win of the season.
Rocket goalie Roman Basran was chased from net early in the second after giving up three goals on 14 shots. James Porter came in for the rest of the game stopping 19 of 21 shots.
The Blades have a few days off before entertaining the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday at 7 p.m.
Rush play to tie in first pre-season action
The Saskatchewan Rush played to a 12-12 tie against the host Toronto Rock in the two teams’ first National Lacrosse League exhibition game of the season on Sunday afternoon.
The Rush return home for their second pre-season game when they will entertain the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Sasktel Centre.
