Mu­seum’s search for home lasts decades

old­est towns in west­ern As­sam state, has been look­ing for a per­ma­nent gallery for its col­lec­tion of 1,000 ob­jects, which in­cludes items from the town’s his­tory as an im­por­tant port and seat of the colo­nial Bri­tish ad­min­is­tra­tion. Ac­cord­ing to the In­dian Ex­press, the mu­seum spent time in two rented houses be­fore be­ing shunted in 2003 into a small hall. In 2010, it was granted a por­tion of land on which to build a per­ma­nent site, but years of le­gal wran­gling have left ad­min­is­tra­tors no fur­ther ahead.
