Man charged with fraud at Winnipeg vet clinics

WINNIPEG A 29-year-old man has been charged in Winnipeg after numerous veterinary hospitals were defrauded of more than $5,000 in total.

Police say eight clinics were targeted by a man, using a false name, who would bring in a dog for treatment and then avoid payment.

They allege the man brought numerous dogs into the clinics and believe he was raising the animals for sale.

Const. Jay Murray says police spoke with people who purchased dogs from the man and that assisted officers in identifyin­g him.

The man turned himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Hazem Nafez Albaadi is charged with eight counts of fraud under $5,000.

“We believe the individual would be handed the debit-card machine, and would manipulate it,” Murray said.

“So if he was charged $228, he would back out into a menu and change it to 28 cents.”
