Convoy should link with GM workers

-

I am writing about the truck convoy that is going to Ottawa. They should do it with solidarity with the General Motors factory workers who will lose their jobs when the factory shuts down.

Both groups are hardworking people who need to support one another instead of competing against one another. If they don’t stand together in mutual support, it will be similar to the farmers’ plight in the 1980s when prices fell for farmers.

When we were driving our tractors on the highways looking for support, these oil workers, instead of supporting us, gave us the finger and told us to “get out of my way and off the road.”

Even Alberta farmers didn’t support us because far right wing corporations put out propaganda that stopped them from supporting us. As a result about 80 per cent of farmers are off the land in cities taking their jobs, and ghost towns of small communities has been the result, with poverty in the cities and rural Canada emptying out. This convoy should divert to pass through the city where this plant is closing so they will support our plight out west.

All Canadian-built cars and trucks have a first digit of No. 2 in the serial numbers. We also need to stop buying all autos without the No. 2 as a first digit to send a message to General Motors to keep our plants producing vehicles.

I sincerely hope both groups can get along to save their jobs.
