Fraser siblings, Mortensen named Canada West all-stars

Brother and sister Colin Fraser and Mandi Fraser from the University of Saskatchew­an Huskies were both named Canada West conference all-stars Tuesday.

Colin Fraser, a graduating fifthyear outside hitter, was named a Canada West second-team all-star. He finished the season with 269 kills to give him 984 for his university career, fourth in the Huskies’ all-time record book. He also served a team-high 22 aces.

Mandi Fraser, who played in 22 matches during her rookie season, was named to the Canada West women’s all-rookie team. She finished third on the Huskies in blocks per set (0.67) and ended the season with 77 kills and 39 blocks.

Meanwhile, former U Sports rookie of the year Dylan Mortensen from the Huskies was also named a Canada West men’s second-team all-star.

Mortensen led the U of S team with 304 kills in 22 games, a total that was good enough to place him fourth in the conference.

TOP 10 TEAMS

The U of S Huskies will enter the Canada West final as the No. 3 ranked men’s hockey team in U Sports competitio­n.

They’ll host the visiting University of Alberta Golden Bears, who are ranked No. 1, in a best-of-three final with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (7 p.m.) at Merlis Belsher Place.

Meanwhile, the U of S women’s basketball team heads into the Canada West final ranked No. 4 in the nation. The Huskies host the University of Regina Cougars on Friday (7 p.m.) at the Physical Activity Complex on campus. Regina is ranked No. 5 in U Sports.

The U of S women’s track and field squad is currently ranked No. 2 in Canada. The men are No. 6.

The Huskies men’s volleyball squad is ranked No. 10 in U Sports after being eliminated from the playoffs last weekend.
