Leadership team adds new transportation boss
Traffic engineer to head transportation and construction department
Longtime City of Saskatoon traffic engineer Angela Gardiner has been named the first leader of a new city hall department as part of city manager Jeff Jorgenson’s restructuring.
Gardiner, who had been filling in as general manager of transportation and utilities since 2017, was appointed general manager of the new transportation and construction department last week.
Her previous permanent post at the city had been director of transportation when Jorgenson was general manager of transportation and utilities. Gardiner began working for the city as a traffic engineer in 2003 after graduating with a master’s degree from the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan.
Jorgenson, who was named the permanent replacement for former city manager Murray Totland in May, announced the reorganization last year. The city manager is hired by city council and then makes most of the top hires at city hall. The city administration has now been divided into four customer-facing departments and four internal divisions.
The city is still seeking permanent general managers for the new utilities and environment department and the community services department. Randy Grauer, who led community services, retired late last year. Chief Morgan Hackl leads the Saskatoon Fire Department.
The internal divisions include corporate financial services, which is led by chief financial officer Kerry Tarasoff, human resources, the new strategy and transformation division and the new public policy and government relations division.
The city is still seeking a permanent chief strategy and transformation officer. Dan Willems is filling in on an interim basis.
Utilities and environment is headed up by Trevor Bell on an interim basis, and Lynne Lacroix is the acting general manager of community services.
