River Landing office tower marks milestone
Mayor says $300M project at River Landing to “define our city”
The builders of a $300-million megaproject at River Landing marked a milestone for a complex many thought would never happen.
“I was one of those who was skeptical,” Mayor Charlie Clark said to the people gathered atop the first of two office towers on Tuesday. “This is going to define our city well into the future.”
Tuesday’s “topping” ceremony entailed pouring concrete to mark the completion of the top floor.
The smaller of two office towers is expected to be completed by November. The Alt Hotel on the site known as Parcel Y opened last month and the condo tower is slated to open this year.
The public plaza in the development is set to be completed by November, too. The Nutrien Tower, expected to become the tallest building in Saskatchewan, is underway with opening slated for 2021.
“It took a lot of courage to take on proceeding with a $300-million development when many people would have told you you’re crazy to do so,” said Blair Sinclair, project manager with Triovest Realty Advisors Inc. of Calgary.
The complex is being built by a conglomerate led by Victory Majors Development Corp. of Saskatoon. The public plaza will be named for Victory Majors’ Karim Nasser, who attended Tuesday’s ceremony.
“I think the city of Saskatoon is lucky to have citizens like the Nasser family,” Sinclair said.
“We are extremely grateful to be sharing this moment with our teammates,” Victory Majors president John Nasser said.
