DOC EXAMINES BEAUTY LAWSUIT

-

Your morning makeup routine could be full of dangerous products, according to the documentary Toxic Beauty.

It shows Canadian filmmaker, and former Olympic field hockey player, Phyllis Ellis exploring a class-action lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson, which uses the mineral talc in a number of its products.

Talc, which can be found in baby powder and cosmetics, has been linked to lung problems and ovarian cancer.

“I thought ... what other products are we using daily that could cause harm?” Ellis said in a statement.

She says that Johnson & Johnson faces more than 11,000 lawsuits. The firm is appealing a Us$4.7-billion award last year for damages in the U.S., according to The New York Times.

Toxic Beauty airs Jan. 5 on CBC’S Documentary Channel.
