Charges laid after human remains found

- THIA JAMES

Less than one week after 20-year-old Allan Douglas Garrioch went missing, a murder charge and two kidnapping charges have been laid against a pair of Saskatoon men.

Tristan Daniel Morrison, 21, is charged with first-degree murder. As well, he and Joshua Domenic Canevaro, 23, are charged with kidnapping while using a firearm in connection with Garrioch’s disappearance and death last month.

According to RCMP, two men were arrested Saturday by RCMP in connection with the disappearance of Garrioch. Following ground searches Sunday in the Rural Municipality of Bayne, human remains were found early Monday.

At that point, Tristan Daniel Morrison, 21, was charged with first-degree murder along with seven other offences that include causing an indignity to a body, kidnapping while using a firearm and forcible confinement. Following his first appearance Monday, he is expected to return Tuesday to Saskatoon provincial court.

Joshua Domenic Canevaro, 23, also faces several charges, including kidnapping while using a firearm and forcible confinement. His next appearance is set for Wednesday in Saskatoon provincial court.

Garrioch, 20, was last seen leaving his home in Humboldt on Feb. 25 around 3 a.m. According to RCMP, he was in the company of three unknown males after a reported altercation in the home. Police said investigators were working to determine whether Garrioch — who also used the last name Glasier — “left on his own free will” or “under duress.”

On Feb. 27, police said Garrioch had not been in contact with family or friends since he was last seen. At the time, RCMP considered his disappearance suspicious due to the circumstances involved.

RCMP expected to maintain a continued presence Monday near the Hamlet of Dana, approximately 49 kilometres northwest of Humboldt.

RCMP said an autopsy will be needed to confirm the identity of the remains.

In a new podcast series, Saskatoon Starphoenix criminal justice reporter Bre Mcadam reflects on cases she’s covered involving female victims of homicide.

Episode 2 is the first of two parts on the case of Carol King.
