ONE TOUGH LITTLE COOKIE

Girl who survived triple homicide recovering

- DAVE DEIBERT

A five-year-old girl who survived the triple homicide of her grandparents and older brother continues to amaze her family with “how strong and determined” she has been as she recovers in hospital, says her mother.

Nathaniel Carrier faces first-degree murder charges in the March 28 deaths of his parents — 56-yearold Sandra Henry and 56-year-old Denis Carter — as well as the death of his seven-year-old son Bentlee. The 28-year-old is also charged with the attempted murder of his daughter — Bentlee’s five-year-old sister, Kendrah.

On Friday, Kendrah’s mother, Heather, said the girl is now recuperating in a Saskatoon hospital after spending several weeks in an Edmonton hospital, where staff nicknamed her “One Tough Cookie.”

Since the March 28 triple homicide, Kendrah has undergone eight surgeries and her condition continues to improve, Heather said in a statement and update issued to media through Prince Albert city police.

“She’s done so well. The whole family is excited for her to come home. We are amazed at how strong and determined she is.”

In the days after the triple homicide, Prince Albert police Insp. Craig Mushka said friends and family had gone to the home at 315 Macarthur Dr. to check on the well-being of the residents and that a family friend then contacted police. Mushka said police had no prior involvement or history with Carrier.

The community stepped up in support of Heather and Kendrah. A Gofundme surpassed its goal and raised nearly $16,000 to help cover funeral expenses for Bentlee, travel for Heather to visit Kendrah in hospital in Edmonton and to put food on the table for her youngest son, Alex, who is just two years old.

The fundraiser was organized by Destiny Bradfield, Heather’s sister.

The page describes Bentlee as “determined” and “brave” from the minute he was born.

“Like her brother, (Kendrah) is determined, and she is brave,” Destiny wrote on the Gofundme page.
