Half-brother charged with murder in death of P.A. girl, 3
A 21-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his three-yearold half-sister in Prince Albert.
Fabian Morin appeared by video link on Wednesday in Prince Albert provincial court and was remanded until his next court appearance on June 5.
P.A. police on Wednesday identified the victim of the homicide as Emily Mccallum-daniels, and confirmed the relationship between her and Morin.
Officers were called around 8 p.m. on April 8 to a home in the 800 block of 17th Street West to assist paramedics on a call involving someone in cardiac arrest.
The child was found unresponsive and attempts were made to save her life en route to Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital. She subsequently was transferred to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, where she died on April 9.
Morin was arrested on Tuesday, according to Prince Albert police Insp. Craig Mushka.
Very early in the investigation, police were looking at who was in the home at the time of the incident, Mushka said.
Several people in the house needed to be spoken to by police, he added.
FORENSIC DETAILS
Over the last few weeks, investigators have been collecting information and waiting for forensic details as they built a “lengthy” timeline, Mushka said.
Police in April confirmed “that the victim and suspects were known to each other,” but provided few other details.
“Investigators do not believe this to be a random incident and do not believe there is a risk to public safety,” police said in April.
At this point, no further charges will be filed, but police continue to investigate, Mushka said.
He acknowledged the emotional toll such a case can take on police officers and first responders. He said police are “strongly encouraging” investigators to reach out for help as needed during the ongoing process.
Morin was arrested without incident, at a home in Prince Albert.
