FIVE THINGS TO DO IN SASKATOON THIS WEEKEND

After the recent polar vortex, temperatur­es up to -10 C this weekend should feel downright balmy. Enjoy the nice weather — or find some fun indoors. Here are five things to do in Saskatoon this coming weekend, writes Jaime Lammerding.

Get out on Optimist Hill

Skiers, snowboarde­rs and tubers can enjoy Optimist Hill on

Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. or on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Masks must be worn at all times and the chalet is closed except to purchase hot drinks or use the vending machines.

Capacity is limited, so tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. Online purchasing is available at optimisthi­ll.ca.

Head to Venice with the SSO

Featuring solo talents of principal flutist Allison Miller, principal oboist Erin Brophey, soprano Chelsea Mahan and trumpeter Dean Mcneill, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra will perform a Carnival at Venice on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. through livestream.

Tickets are $15 and available at saskatoons­ymphony.org.

Tie on the skates

Grab the family and head over to the Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink at Nutrien Park.

It's free to skate, but one-hour time slots must be booked on Eventbrite. Skating is available Wednesday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Capacity is limited to 30 skaters at a time and there is no place to store personal belongings.

Do Something at the Remai Modern

The Scotiabank Something on Sundays program at the Remai Modern gives kids a new artmaking activity every week from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The studio is limited to 20 people, but no registrati­on is required and the program is free to attend. More informatio­n is available at remaimoder­n.org.

Watch and listen to the light show

Welcome to the O is the newest Winter City Snow Glow display to come to the Shakespear­e on the Saskatchew­an site.

Your motion through the amphitheat­re will trigger sound and light intended to evoke the ghosts of Shakespear­e's works.

The installati­on is open daily from 6 a.m. to sunrise and sunset to 11 p.m. until March 14.
