Police seek information, video in fatal shooting
Police investigators are hoping residential cameras captured any evidence connected to a fatal shooting in the Nutana neighbourhood.
A 29-year-old man was found dead and two others were injured after reports of shots fired on Thursday around 4:30 p.m. Police first received a report of an injured man in the 100 block of Main Street, followed by reports of shots fired in the 700 block of Melrose Avenue. When police arrived at the Melrose Avenue location, a man was found dead behind an apartment building.
The man found injured in the 100 block of Main Street was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries. According to police, a third injured man was transported to City Hospital. The two men injured are 25 and 35 years old, police said.
Police on Friday told the Starphoenix the two injured men remain in hospital in stable condition.
The 29-year-old man's next of kin have been notified, police said.
In an email to the Starphoenix, police confirmed all three men had been shot.
On Friday, police said investigators are looking to identify two men, both described as having slim builds, who were seen fleeing the area around the time of the reported incidents. Police said the men were wearing dark clothing and one carried a bag with a strap.
In a news release, police asked residents who live in the area bordered by Saskatchewan Crescent East, Victoria Avenue, Main Street, and the Idylwyld Drive freeway and who have security cameras to review footage recorded on Thursday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. for signs of suspicious activity.
“(Investigators) are most interested in locating video evidence from nearby cameras that residents in the area might have to assist in determining the movements and actions of the two men that were observed fleeing the area,” a police spokesman said in an email.
Police do not believe there is a continued risk to public safety and confirmed “the involved parties are believed to be known to one another.”
Members of the major crime, serious assault and forensic identification sections are involved in the investigation.
