HARVEY, Peter Nick

March 30, 1928 – November 21, 2022

-

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Peter Harvey. Peter was born on the family farm in east central Saskatchewan. He received his elementary and secondary education in rural and village schools in the area. He entered Normal School in Saskatoon and after eight weeks of training he was assigned to a teaching position in rural Saskatchewan. His first class consisted of thirty-nine students in nine grades. After a few years of teaching in country schools, Peter returned to Saskatoon to continue his education. He earned B.A and B.ED. degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, and an M.A. degree from the University of Oregon. His teaching career included service at Prince Albert Collegiate, and culminated after twenty-two years at Aden Bowman Collegiate in Saskatoon. Peter met Cecile Forget while both were attending Summer School at the University of Saskatchewan. They were married at Notre Dame d’auvergne Parish Church in Ponteix, Saskatchewan, Cecile’s home town. That fall they accepted teaching positions in the same community school, where Peter was the Principal and Cecile was the Elementary Teacher. They moved to Prince Albert, where their daughters Patricia and Amelia were born. In the early 1960s they returned to Saskatoon and completed their family with the birth of their son Reginald. Following his retirement from teaching, Peter dedicated much of his time to the charitable work of the Knights of Columbus. During his tenure KC Charities undertook the development and construction of Columbian Manor, where there is a room named in recognition of his leadership and commitment to this project. He was fortunate to spend many years living there. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cecile, his parents Nick and Eustina; his siblings and their partners Anne and John Butula, Mac (Matt) and Annie Hawryliw, Mary and John Walchuk, Magdalena (Lena) and John Bilokrely, Catherine (Kay) and Clarence Young, Julia (Judy) and Maurice Hodnik, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is lovingly remembered by his children Patricia (Bill) Miller, Amelia (Michael) Shirley and Reginald (Beverly) Harvey; grandchildren Benjamin Miller, Thomas Miller (Myra Brooks) and Allison Miller (Kieran Foss); Eric Shirley and Katherine Shirley; Jay Richards (Amber) and Blake Richards (Ashley); and great-granddaughter Keira Richards. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice in Peter’s name. The Vigil of Prayer for Peter will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 29, 2022 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 30, 2022.
