Find home inspiration and connect with the experts

Whether you're a homeowner or a home dreamer, the Homestyles Home and Renovation Show will open your eyes to exciting ways to enhance your indoor and outdoor living spaces. The annual trade show is a presentation of the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders Association (SRHBA), taking place March 15-17 at Prairieland Park.

Now in its 42nd year, the Homestyles Show offers inspiration, ideas and helpful information to consumers.

“The Homestyles show is all about connecting people,” says Karen Kobussen, senior director of strategy and growth with the SRHBA.

“It's the ideal location for businesses and consumers to meet, be inspired, create beautiful homes and develop lasting relationships.”

Kobussen says the variety of exhibitors keeps the show fresh and exciting after four decades.

“The exhibitors research and capture the latest trends — not just in home design or colour trends — but also trends in energy efficiency, indoor air quality and home automation. The show provides consumers with the information they need to make informed decisions.”

Over 200 exhibitors will be featured at this year's show, including SRHBA certified professional homebuilders and certified professional Renomark renovators. To achieve certification, SRHBA member builders and renovators must complete extensive education and training modules, and meet warranty requirements that ensure consumer confidence.

“Homestyles doesn't only stand out for the number of exhibitors at the show, it's also the quality of our exhibitors,” says Kobussen. “Homestyles offers consumers the opportunity to meet with these experts face to face and have helpful conversations.

“Why drive around from show room to show room to gather information for your home renovation project or to explore a new build? It's easier to come to Homestyles, where everything is under one roof,” says Kobussen.

Energy efficiency is a hot topic at this year's Homestyles show, especially because of the changes to the Building Code that came into effect on Jan. 1 in Saskatchewan. Homebuilders are now required to increase energy efficiency by 10 per cent over the current building code. At Homestyles, consumers can explore informative displays on everything from solar panels and heat pumps to EV chargers and home automation systems.

By visiting the Speakers Stage, the public can also learn about products and services that will help them bring greater energy efficiency, comfort and style to their homes. Presenters will share their expertise on a wide range of topics, beginning on March 15 from noon to 7 p.m., and March 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are also some entertaining topics slated for the Speakers' Stage, including the Friday evening presentation by an expert mixologist, where the audience will learn how to make a favourite cocktail three ways.

“It's part of our `date night' theme on Friday,” says Kobussen.

Friday is also Seniors Day at Homestyles. During the day, presentations on the Speakers Stage will include ways to renovate homes so residents can more easily age in place.

Sunday is Family Day and favourite children's characters, face painters and a balloon artist will be on hand to entertain the kids.

Sure to be a favourite destination on all three days of Homestyles is the Sunshine Cottage, a large “she shed” designed and built to help raise funds for the YWCA'S Hope Lives Here campaign. The YWCA'S fundraising campaign will help to create 35 transitional housing units for women and children in crisis, which will be built by Big Block Construction.

“We've partnered with a number of SRHBA members including Nufab Building Products, local designer Candyce April of William Wolf Design Studio, and Whitney Buettner, owner of Grace & Grit Construction. The Sunshine Cottage is all decked out with so many exciting features. It's a very Zen space,” says Kobussen.

“We're going to unveil it at Homestyles. Come and visit the Sunshine Cottage and find out how you can get involved and support the YWCA'S Hope Lives Here campaign.”

Another fun area to visit is the Market at Homestyles, featuring a variety of local artisans and vendors.

“The Market will feature literally everything from soup to nuts. People will find some delightful, curated items,” says Kobussen.

Homestyles will be open Friday, March 15 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission at the door is $15 for adults; $12.50 for seniors/students; $10 for children (ages 6 to 12); and children five and under are free. A one-day family pass (two adults and up to two children up to 12 years of age) is $40. Additional savings are available by purchasing tickets online in advance.
