Former Riders head coach Dickenson joins Stamps
Former Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Craig Dickenson has found a new home in the CFL.
The Calgary Stampeders announced they have added Dickenson to their football staff as a senior consultant.
Dickenson served as head coach of the Roughriders from 2019 to 2023 but didn't have his contract renewed after the team finished out of the playoffs with a 6-12 record for the second straight year. He was replaced this off-season by Corey Mace.
In 2019, Dickenson was the West Division's nominee for coach of the year in his first season at the helm. Prior to being promoted to head coach, Dickenson was the Riders special teams co-ordinator from 2016 to 2018.
The 52-year-old Dickenson is now set to join the Stampeders alongside his younger brother, Dave Dickenson, who has been Calgary's head coach since 2016. Dave is also the team's general manager.
For Craig, it will be a return to Calgary after spending seven seasons with the Stampeders, including in 2008, when he won a Grey Cup as the special teams co-ordinator. Craig also won a Grey Cup with Edmonton in 2015.
“I am pleased to be working with the Calgary Stampeders in 2024,” Craig said in a media release.
“This is an outstanding organization and football staff and I look forward to helping them succeed.”
“Craig is well connected in both the CFL as well as U.S. football and he will make our staff better,” Dave added. “He'll be a valuable resource in many areas, including advance scouting and player personnel. We're glad to have Craig back with the Red and White.”
Along with stints in Saskatchewan, Calgary and Edmonton, Dickenson brings several years of experience with other CFL teams, including Montreal and Winnipeg. He also has NFL experience having served as the San Diego Chargers' assistant special teams co-ordinator from 2000 to 2001 and the Oakland Raiders' assistant special teams co-ordinator in 2010.
