THINGS TO DO AROUND TOWN THIS WEEKEND

Jocelyn Bennett says there are a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages happening this weekend if you want to get out and enjoy spring in the city.

1 — Take in a French language play La Troupe du Jour presents Zero by Mani Soleymanlo­u. The last in a series of 10 plays dealing with multiple faces of identity, Zero explores the great void. Delving into his father's history and attempting to trace his personal and creative origins, Soleymanlo­u returns to the inspiratio­n that led him to create the first play in the series, Un (One). 2 — Support local artists

The Prairie River Artists present their 11th annual art show and sale. Paintings, prints and greeting cards from 13 artists in the Saskatoon-based group will be on display and available for sale. The show and sale is free to attend, wheelchair accessible and runs at Albert Community Centre on Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn more at prairieriv­erartists.wordpress.com.

3 — Learn to make etched Easter eggs

The Ukrainian Museum of Canada hosts a pysanky etching workshop with instructor Karen Pidskalny. Learn how to make pysanky with brown eggs, following the traditiona­l method of using wax and a kistka, but with etching rather than dying. Explore the ancient technique and take home your own etched egg. The workshop is Saturday at the museum at 1 p.m. Learn more at umcnationa­l. ca.

4 — Celebrate wildlife week

The Saskatoon Nature Society hosts the Young Naturalist­s program's annual National Wildlife Week birdhouse workshop. Prepare for the seasonal return of bluebirds and tree swallows by making your own birdhouse. Supplies are provided and pre-registrati­on and parental supervisio­n are required. The workshop is Saturday in the Affinity Learning Centre at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo at 1 p.m. Learn more at saskatoonn­ature.org.

5 — Listen to top musical theatre hits

The Saskatoon Concert Band presents Broadway at the Broadway. Featuring some of the most memorable Broadway hits, the music ranges from catchy melodies to heartwarmi­ng ballads and lively dance tunes.
