What makes Ranch Ehrlo a Saskatchewan top employer for 13 years running?

Embark on a fulfilling career, where purpose-driven work meets a supportive community

- JULIA STRATTON

This year, Ranch Ehrlo claimed a spot as a Saskatchewan top employer for the 13th consecutive year — and for good reason. Employees say working for the nonprofit organization provides them with a sense of purpose, along with a welcoming community of people, great benefits and fair compensation.

Since 1966, Ranch Ehrlo has been committed to providing individual and community support for youth, adults and families facing mental health and complex developmental needs. The Saskatchewan based agency’s mission is to provide quality preventative and restorative treatments for vulnerable people.

The organization provides an array of accredited mental health and developmental services, including but not limited to individual and family therapy, group treatments and addiction services, along with community recreation and sports programs.

Karlyn Hadjistavropoulos, a youth-care worker at Ranch Ehrlo, began her journey with the organization while pursuing an education degree.

“When I first started here at Ranch Ehrlo, I basically thought this was going to be a casual job,” she shares.

“But I really fell in love with the work we do here. I love coming to work every day feeling like I made a change in someone else’s life.”

In her role as a youth-care worker, Hadjistavropoulos says her day-to-day responsibilities include doing fun activities with the kids, like taking them swimming and to the movies, while also teaching them important life skills through role modelling.

“I feel so fortunate to be part of these kids’ journeys to independence,” says Hadjistavropoulos. “It can be hard work, but even when the day is hard, you leave feeling like you did something important.”

In addition to providing a great work environment and competitive pay, Ranch Ehrlo offers several other benefits, including employer-matched pensions, health benefits, paid vacation, paid education and paid sick leave.

Above all, Hadjistavropoulos says her favourite part about working at Ranch Ehrlo is the sense of community and relationships.

“My co-workers have become my best friends. You’re working with good people and the relationships you make in this job — whether it’s with the kids, with your co-workers — it’s a really good environment to be in.”

Ranch Ehrlo is actively seeking candidates passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families. Ideal candidates may come from diverse backgrounds such as psychology, kinesiology, social work, special-care aide, rehabilitation, education and human justice.

“I would encourage everyone to apply to Ranch Ehrlo,” says Hadjistavropoulos. “I really didn’t think this would be much more than a temporary gig and now I’m locked in for life.”
