FIVE THINGS TO DO IN SASKATOON
Celebrate the special women in your life this Mother's Day weekend and take in some of the family-friendly art and music events happening in the city, says Jocelyn Bennett.
1. Interact at an art opening
PAVED Arts presents Enacting Echoes by Nigerian-canadian artist Judah Iyunade. Static images fuse with film elements in a rich, visual storytelling experience that blurs the line between reality and illusion. Iyunade discusses theatrical narratives and painting at the gallery on Friday at 7 p.m. The opening reception follows at 8 p.m. The exhibition runs to June 14. Learn more at pavedarts.ca.
2. Enjoy art-inspired musical performances
Remai Modern hosts a guided tour of A Sound that Never Was by artist duo The Dim Coast in the Feature Gallery on Friday. The tour is followed by a rooftop performance of Raven Chacon's Compass by Chad Munson, then a concert in the Riverview Room by Isabella Forciniti and Steve Bates. The tour begins at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Remai Modern presents Music of Picasso, a concert in Sofia Mycyk's performance series. The pianist has created a repertoire related to the life and times of Picasso, which includes pieces by Isaac Albéniz, Francis Poulenc and Erik Satie. The concert is in the Gallery Lounge from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Learn more at remaimodern.org.
3. Learn at an art talk and opening
The Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery presents Queer Newfoundland Hockey League, a solo exhibition by Lucas Morneau. Crochet, queered hockey cards and rug hooking are used to introduce a fictional hockey league, with the aim of deconstructing homophobia in sports culture. Morneau hosts a talk at the gallery Saturday at 6:30 p.m., followed by the opening reception. The exhibition runs to July 6. Learn more at saskcraftcouncil.org.
4. Get immersed in choral music
Eclipse Chorus presents Songs from the Silver Screen. The choral group transports listeners back to memories of those magical moments of watching new box office hits on the big, silver screen. The concert is Saturday at the Broadway Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Learn more at broadwaytheatre.ca.
Saskatoon Chamber Singers present So You Want to
Write a Fugue? Presented as an instruction manual, the concert features guest soloist Oli Guselle and Saskatoon Men's Chorus. The show is Sunday at Knox United Church at 3 p.m. Learn more at saskatoonchambersingers.ca.
