CORN­WALL, On­tario - The Re­lay for Life is this Fri­day, June 1 at 6 p.m. at the Maxville Fair Grounds. One team has been work­ing hard in the lead up to the event to meet their fundrais­ing goals.

The Phe­nom­e­nal Women are a team of 11 sis­ters, sis­ter-in-laws and friends who all want to do their part to raise money for can­cer re­search.

“We know that one in ev­ery two peo­ple will be af­fected by can­cer in their life­time,” said team mem­ber Melinda Fen­ton.

On Satur­day, May 26, a week be­fore the re­lay, they held a garage sale in Corn­wall. Sell­ing pos­ses­sions that team mem­bers had do­nated, by mid­morn­ing that day they had al­ready raised $500.

In ad­di­tion to sell­ing garage sale items, they also had pre­pared a bake sale with items that they had made them­selves, in­clud­ing de­li­cious lemon seed blue­berry cook­ies.

Their goal was to raise $1,500 in time for the re­lay.

As of Mon­day, May 28, the Re­lay for Life in SD&G had raised $48,651.10 of their $50,000 goal.
