E-waste supports Big Brothers/ Big Sisters
CORNWALL, Ontario – Did you know that those broken headphones you have where only one ear works, and the phone with the cracked screen can both go to help a good cause?
Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Cornwall collects used electronics and with the help of J. Henstock Recycling, recycles them. Henstock gives Big Brothers/ Big Sisters a percentage payment perpound of electronics they recycle.
All electronic items are accepted excluding microwaves and small batteries.
Items can be dropped off at the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters clubhouse on Third St. and is stored in their shed until Henstock comes by to pick it up.
J. Henstock Recycling was named this year’s Big Business of the Year by Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Cornwall.
“Each week this company comes to the office to collect the “goods” from us,” reads a statement from Big Brothers/ Big Sisters about the award. “Rain, snow or sunshine this team is always full of smiles and ready to pack their truck full of old technology. They are a company trying to reduce our waste and promote the value of recycling. With every load they donate a portion to Big Brothers Big Sisters. We are truly honored to announce this year’s winner of Big Business of the Year as J. Henstock Recycling. Please welcome Joseph, Joanne and Joseph Jr. up to receive this very well deserved award!”
According to Ron Graham, Executive Director of Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Cornwall said that local businesses regularly donate their e-waste including Morbern, St. Joseph’s Villa and Benson Auto Group.
Graham said that these donations really help to support Big Brothers/ Big Sisters programs.
“A lot of our money goes to one-on-one mentoring,” he said. “This year we had a big influx so we are working on getting more matches.”
Henstock has been supporting Big Brothers/ Big Sisters since 2013.
