Snowbird caution

Sentinel-Review (Woodstock) - - OPINION -

This is a warning to those going south for the winter. I’d to learn the hard way.

If you’re having your mail forwarded by Canada Post to your winter address, take heed. Canada Post won’t forward federal or provincial government mail; they’ll return the mail to sender. Nowhere do they mention this in the form you complete to forward your mail or in the email confirmation or on the Canada Post website. Nor did the postal clerk tell me.

Service Canada sent me a letter and since it was returned “address unknown,” Service Canada froze my CPP and OAS. Now I’ve confirmed my address, the agent tells me he’s made the request to reinstate both pensions, however, it’ll take up to 90 days before I get my pensions.

Canada Post has refused to rebate part of or all of the $176.43 I had paid to have my mail forwarded. R. Park London
