‘Read All About It!’: Big book sale in Potton

- The Scoop Mable Hastings

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more places you'll go.”

Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

Most people will agree that a restful vacation is greatly enhanced by a few good summer reads. Whether one is sitting on the beach, by a pool or in the park, a book can provide the escape from the everyday in a few short chapters. While we all love a crisp new novel from the local bookstore, it is always fun to find a second-hand treasure shared from one book enthusiast to another and therefore, many of us stop by a yard sale or book sale when we spot one.

For over 10 years, during the Multicultural Festival in Mansonville, the Pot- ton Memorial Library has held an Annual Book Sale Fundraiser in front of the town hall in the centre of the day’s activities; this year’s profits will be split between the library and the Missisquoi North youth programs.

On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., this year’s Book Sale will welcome readers for bargains galore! With over 150 boxes of books, a year-long accumulation of donations received, the sale promises something for everyone. There are books on art, cooking gardening, and history as well as many French and English novels.

“We even have books on how to learn to speak Japanese and other foreign language selections,” said librarian Chelsea Boisvert.

The Potton Memorial Library has some terrific volunteers who work throughout the year alongside Boisvert in offering a variety of exciting exhibitions, events and informational sessions.

“The Annual Book Sale is just one of our activities held each year with the help and support of our wonderful volunteers,” explained Boisvert.

Volunteers working at this year’s sale will include Percy Thorpe, Alexe Cyr, Elaine Heitner and John Benson who will volunteer alongside members from the Missisquoi North Youth Centre For- mer Youth Involvement and Students Against Destructive Decisions youth who will help from early morning to pack up on the day.

Anyone wishing to donate books in good condition can drop them off at the library before Saturday.

For more information, please contact Chelsea at 450-292-3948 or email Bibliotheque@potton.ca.

Organizers appreciate those who stop by the Book Sale to show their support and you are encouraged to share this announcement with your contacts, family and friends.

The joy of reading and the benefits to the human spirit derived from a good book are abundant! You are invited to “read all about it,” on Saturday in Potton.
