Two car accidents on Tuesday afternoon

- By Matthew McCully

It was a busy day for the Stanstead fire department, called to the scene of two serious car accidents on Tuesday afternoon.

The first call came in around 1 p.m. reporting a head-on collision between two vehicles on Stage Road in Stanstead East, according to Fire Chief Chris Goodsell.

Each vehicle was occupied by only the driver.

One of the victims sustained minor injuries, while the other suffered serious injuries to the upper and lower body.

A member of the fire department accompanied the paramedics to offer assistance on the way to hospital.

Shortly after returning to the sta- tion, Goodsell said a second call came into the station about a vehicle with a single occupant that had gone off Lapierre Road in Ogden.

The victim was pinned, requiring the jaws-of-life to remove the roof and side of the vehicle to extract him. According to Goodsell, the victim’s injuries were life threatening, citing multiple fractures.

In both cases, Goodsell said it was believed the accidents were caused by drivers losing control of their vehicles.

Goodsell could not comment on whether the temperature or road conditions were a factor in the accidents.

The Stage Road accident happened on asphalt, while the incident on Lapierre was on a dirt road, Goodsell added.
