Phoenix Fall in OT to East Division Leader

The Phoenix were hoping to put an end to their losing skid. The Phoenix had lost their previous two games on the road allowing a total of 14 goals against coming into the Tuesday night match.

The uphill battle to get into the playoffs currently has the Phoenix seeded at 5th in the division 28 points back of the leading Rouyn-Noranda Huskies coming into the Monday night game with Shawinigan.

It took no more than 15 seconds for the Cataractes to get on the board and take a 1-0 lead as Giovanni Fiore finished off a nice tic tac toe play establishe­d by the rapid forecheck from Shawinigan forwards Alexis D’Aoust and Brandon Gignac.

The Phoenix would finally get on the board with a goal of their own from Daniel Audette who took a pass from Julien Bahl out of the corner and maneuvered around Cataractes goalie to fire a puck along the ice going off of both posts before finally trickling into the net to score his 13th goal of the season at 17:49 tying the game at one goal apiece before the close of the first frame.

Evan Fitzpatric­k was spectacula­rtory.in net for the Phoenix after a shaky previous two games turning away a shorthande­d breakaway from Alexis D’Aoust late in the second period and another point blank shot off of a transition two on one early in the third.

The game proved to be a battle of the goaltender­s after the end of regulation Fitzpatric­k had stopped 33 shots and Cadorette stopped 26 of his own forcing an overtime period of 3 on 3.
