Lennoxville Golden Age Club

-

September 13 – Members gathered at the Lennoxville United Church hall for the start of another season of our senior club. Lots of chatter could be heard as we caught up on all the happenings of the summer months. Five tables of 500 and two tables of Bridge were played, while Shirley Patton and Gwen Bayley took each other on in a game of Scrabble.

At 4 o’clock, the card tables were put away, and we gathered around the dinner tables. Pat welcomed everyone including our guests Theresa Wilson and Melvin Young, and asked the Blessing. Sixty members and guests sat down to a delicious meal of hearty beef stew, mashed potatoes, peas, corn, caesar salad, pickles, and whole wheat or white rolls. Dessert consisted of platters of brownies, tea or coffee. Our thanks to Billy and Emily Mcburney for putting together such a wonderful supper.

Winners of today’s 500 were: Ladies high went to Margaret Cheal with a score of 4720, Ladies low went to Ginette Provencher with a score of 2540. Gents high went to Lise Provencher, who played as a man, with a score of 4900, and Gents low went to Elsie Mills, who also played as a man, with a score of 2560. The special prize for a successful bid of 9 Hearts was won by several throughout the afternoon, but at the end of the day, Pat Decoteau was the last person to “steal” the envelope and take it home.

Door prizes were won by Wayne Nutbrown, Monika Mosberger, Hanne Butschkow, Shirley Patton, George Martel, and Bill Heyman.

Gordon Humphrey is currently on our sick list, and we send him our very best wishes.

Congratulations to our Chef, Billy Lidstone, and his lovely wife, Cynthia, on the birth of their second child, a little girl. A reminder that Memberships are currently due. Our thanks to the many hands who made the kitchen clean up easy.

There will NOT be a meeting on September 27, so please keep that in mind. We will meet again on October 11 at which time we will play Military Whist. Anyone wishing to play, please bring something from home for the prize table.
