Second trail for Linda Proulx in ongoing gas cartel case
The debate should focus on the issues of Proulx's involvement in the Magog gas market and whether she participated in the conspiracy. She is being defended by Thomas Walsh.
Meanwhile, discussions are continuing in the class action case that was launched against cartel participants.
A management conference is scheduled to take place in February at the Québec City Courthouse for the first class action for the Sherbrooke, Magog, Victoriaville and Thetford Mines markets. A hearing scheduled for the fall of 2016 was postponed to allow for an amicable settlement.
The class action suit involving motorists Simon Jacques, Marcel Lafontaine, and the Motor Vehicle Protection Association applies to everybody who purchased gasoline at least once between January 1, 2001 and June 30, 2006 in Victoriaville, Thetford Mines, Sherbrooke, and Magog. The "Jacques" suit was authorized seven years ago, on November 30, 2009.
Another class action suit involving 22 cities is awaiting a hearing in the Supreme Court of Canada, in which motorists represented by lawyer Daniel Thouin are seeking the right to interview the Chief Investigator of the Competition Bureau of Canada. The Supreme Court will hear the parties in this case on May 24, 2017.
