Hugo Roy named Captain of the Phoenix
Roy, Pelletier, Grégoire and Poulin to make up new player leadership group
The Phoenix have named Hugo Roy the team’s fourth captain in team history. The role was left vacant after the team traded Carl Neill to the Charlottetown Islanders last week.
Roy, a 19-year-old forward from Cookshire-eaton is in the progress of a career year with the Phoenix in his third season, scoring 22 goals and 20 assists in 41 games played.
Naming Hugo Roy Captain was reported as the unanimous choice of the coaching staff and GM Joceyln Thibault based on the young forwards work ethic and leadership of mentoring young players.
The players filling the role of assistant captains for the team include: Julien Pelletier, Thomas Grégoire and Nicolas Poulin.
Pelletier was already served as one of the teams’ assistants this past year and has been a steady threat for the Birds offence, racking up 21 goals so far in his final year of Junior eligibility. Pelletier’s career high is 50-points from his rookie year with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, a mark he is just 9-points short of currently.
Grégoire is another hard-working player enjoying a breakout season with the Birds. The Sherbrooke native has emerged as the Phoenix’s top point producer just over halfway through the year as the team’s set-up man, registering 39/45 points with assists.
Poulin emerged last year as the team’s grinding power forward that could be counted on for depth. Out with a kneeinjury since training camp, Poulin’s dedication off the ice and overall character is something that all the coaches believe the younger guys on the team can learn from. His return to the line-up is expected to be sometime next week for his first in-game action.
