Domino’s looking to raise some dough for flood victims

- By Gordon Lambie

Domino’s Pizza in Sherbrooke is at it again, looking to help out people in troubled times with the tools they have on hand: pizza dough and cheese. Starting today, the two Sherbrooke locations of the pizza chain will be running a fundraiser in the hopes of donating $15,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for flood relief.

“It’s definitely close to home,” said Amanda Boersen, trainer for the two Sherbrooke stores. “Just a few years ago, we were the ones affected by the floods.”

Boersen said that while the Sherbrooke Domino’s has run intense, oneday fundraisers centred on the sales of large pizzas in the past, they’re doing something a little different this time around. For ten days, from May 12 to 22, the business will donate $5 to the Red Cross for every cheesy bread that is ordered. That $5 will then be matched by Domino’s Canada, bringing the donation up to $10.

In keeping with their usual pattern, the business also has a lunch and suppertime run to Richmond planned for May 19th, as well as a special deal for the final weekend as a push to raise as much money as possible.

“This is our way to help,” the trainer said, pointing out that although Domino’s stores in the areas directly affected by flooding have been giving out free Pizzas to volunteers, those who are further away need to use financial means to try to make a difference.
