Lennoxville Golden Age Club

-

May 23 – Our final meeting of the season, combined with our annual meeting.

Members gathered in the Lennoxville United Church hall for an afternoon of cards. Four tables of 500, and one table of Bridge were played, while Shirley Patton and Gwen Bayley enjoyed a game of Scrabble.

At 3:30 p.m., games ended, and we gathered for the annual meeting. President Pat began by welcoming everyone and gave a summary of the year’s events. She then called upon Kay Hartwell to chair the annual meeting.

Kay took a few moments to thank Pat for her leadership and guidance throughout the past season, and then asked the Executives and Heads of Committees to present their individual reports. All reports were adopted and approved as read.

The Nominating Committee reported a new slate of officers for the upcoming season as follows: President – Pat Decoteau, 1st Vice – Joan Cruickshank, 2nd Vice – Eugene Naylor, Treasurer – Dean Cruickshank, and Executive Secretary - Glenda Huff.

Weekly scores for individuals who play 500 are kept on file, and each year, at our annual meeting, we like to acknowledge those who hold the highest and the lowest, single score, of the season: This year, bragging rights go to:

Ladies highest – Pat Decoteau with a score of 6240

Ladies lowest - Jean Rourke with a score of 2200

Gents highest – Jack Kimpton with a score of 5360

Gents lowest – Robert Davis with a score of 2060

Most skunks – Louise Peasley with a total of 5

With no other business to discuss, the annual meeting was adjourned.

Supper ready, Pat asked the Blessing, and we enjoyed a very nice cold supper of potato salad, macaroni salad, spinach salad with mandarin oranges, apple coleslaw, platters of cold cuts (pork, ham and beef salami) cheese platter, sliced cucumbers and dip, pickles and olives, rolls, crusty bread, cupcakes with chocolate butter cream topping, tea and coffee. Many thanks to Billy and Emily for another excellent meal, and we are happy to report that Billy will be back with us in the fall.

Pat announced the birthdays for June, July and August. Happy Birthday wishes to all who will be celebrating this summer.

Winners of 500 today were: Ladies high – Caroline Rowe with a score of 3020, Ladies low – Elsie Ramage with a score of 2300. Gents high – Isabel Nelson who played as a man, with a score of 2900, and Gents low – Doris Coates who also played as a man, with a score of 1400.

The prize for a successful bid of 8 Hearts was claimed by many throughout the afternoon, but at the end of the day, it went home with George Peasley. But here’s the thing – I was George’s partner this last game of the afternoon, and had the prize in my possession, when George successfully made the 8 heart bid, and with my help, stole the prize away from me!

Door prizes were won by Ada Hicks, Elsie Ramage, Alberta Crawford, Vi Derby and Frances Smith.

Thanks to the many hands who made the kitchen clean up easy.

We recently lost two of our faithful members, Beverly Sterling and Margaret Cheal. We extend our most heartfelt sympathies to their families at this very difficult time.

Our Club will be starting back on September 12, at which time, we will play Military Whist. Your callers will remind you the week prior. New members are always welcome.

Wishing everyone a very pleasant and safe summer.
