Final Tour des Arts for Irma and Roger Cote

- By Louise Smith

After 29 years in the Tour des Arts, being some of the first members of the tour, the team of Irma and Roger Cote are participating in their final Tour des Arts from July 16 to 23. After this they are retiring from the quilting and stained glass business. There is a nice parting thank-you to them in this year’s brochure, thanking them for all their years of work.

They have been in the stained glass business going back almost 45 years. The large stained glass panel at the new community centre in Knowlton was designed by Sally Kinninmonth and then it took six months of executing the design in stained glass by Roger and Irma to bring it to life. It is 40 feet long and in eight sections. Their work also hangs in many homes after so many years in the Tour des Arts circuit.

Their studio is located in Knowlton, at 5 Ellson Road, off of Pine, from Victoria. They can be reached at 450-243-5522. The studio itself is a work of art and the light shining through the stained glass creates a mystical feeling. The stained glass creations highlight luminosity reflecting aspects of Art Deco and Egyptian influences.

Irma’s artistic quilts will also be available for purchase. In both the quilts and stained glass creations design and colour are so important. The pieces on display are unique and anyone acquiring one of their pieces will indeed have a work of art to admire for years to come.
