Knowlton successfully kicks off Arts Alive! Québec season
The 2017 summer edition of Arts Alive! Québec that took place in Knowlton from June 25 to July 8 was a brilliant success. The arts festival wrapped up last Saturday with a Celtic Celebration of Canada's Roots concert, which included performances by a young Québécois fiddler, a master stepdancer (gigueur Québécois), Inuit throat singers, and an Indian Tabla player.
During the closing events, the audience was treated to the premiere of the film 11:17. Based on a screenplay written by Frank Salvatori, the short film resulted from the screenwriting and film workshops offered during AAQ Knowlton. The film can be viewed on www.facebook.com/artsaliveknowlton/.
With 11 successful workshops and events behind them, the organizing committee deserves a round of applause. Thanks to Darleen Bell and Donald Finigan (Acoustic Village), Danny Mcauley (Brome Lake Books), Laura Teasdale (actor/playwright), April O’donoughue (Celtic Festival), Rugge Thompson (film) and Kate Holbrook (Townshippers’ Association), for making the 2017 edition of the festival a success!
As Guy Rodgers, executive director chez English Language Arts Network — Quebec, declared at the opening at Theatre Lac Brome, Knowlton has always been a model of innovation and creativity and was the inspiration for ELAN’S support for anglophone arts in the rural regions. Funding is key to the festival’s success and means that plays, workshops, and concerts can be offered free or at a reasonable price.
