local history into it,” the museum representative said. Hyman shared that a large group of actors dressed in period costume took on the roles of townspeople from 150 years ago and provided visitors with an immersive opportunity to get to know just what life would have been like in town at the time.

“A number of them were people who had appeared in some of the plays that the museum has sponsored over the last four or five years,” she said. “We did not have a play this past winter and I have a feeling they really enjoyed getting back in the saddle and doing some acting, they were terrific.

The actors, she continued, were working under the direction and coordination of Sharon Rothney, who made sure that the facts of the matter were on point.

“She worked tirelessly on this whole thing and did a really great job,” Hyman added, also praising seamstresses Mary Mcburney and Linda Mills for their hard work creating the costumes that did their part in making the performances fit the mood of the day. “They both did fine work,” she said. “They are very talented people.”

According to Hyman, the costumes used this past Sunday will be incorporated into the resources the museum already has on hand, making future theatrical productions even easier.

For the board member, the highlights of the afternoon were the horse drawn shuttle service provided by Eddie Blake of Compton and the presentations given by Monique Nadeau-saumier.

“She gave about a half-hour’s talk in English and then half an hour later in French and the church was full both times,” Hyman said. “She’s an extremely knowledgeable expert on Eastern Townships history.

Thinking back on the day’s events, she praised the way the new event was able to blend learning and fun.

“At one point in the afternoon as many of the costumed actors as possible got out there and did some square dancing,” Hyman said. “People were really saying they learned something.”
