No one can believe the beautiful weather we saw throughout September but Richmond 50+ Club got started anyway, getting underway on Monday, September 11, right after Richmond Fair, meeting as usual at the Richmond Melbourne United Church. President Matty Banfill welcomed twenty-four people to the new season. New member Nicole Clark was welcomed. A card was signed for Shirley Beasley, who is recovering from a hip operation. The usual donation was made to the Terry Fox Run. A notice regarding the United Church Hall rental was read. Following this, “500” was played at six tables and in conclusion, high score was earned by Elizabeth Mastine with 4660 points, followed by Bev Jones with 4580. Jim Stevens had the honour of low score.

Twenty people were welcomed by President Matty for an afternoon of Military Whist on the 18th. When the scores were tallied, high score of 35 flags went to Captain Marie-berthe Skerry, Correspondence - request for donations. Committee reports - Cmde Ann has sent out several cards; Kitchen - Cmde Linda has done a major cleaning of all dishes and utensils; Membership - Cmde Elsie reported that we have 69 members; Publicity Cmde Mildred had nothing to report; Ways and Means - Cmde Donna said it had been a quiet summer; Special committee report - Cmde Ann Nixon gave her report and is in need of more finances to continue.

Donations were given to the Terry Fox Run, CIBC Nicole Clark, Sylvia Morin and Gerald Skerry. Low score went to Captain Helen Knowles with Freda Coote, Eileen Perkins and Harry Morrill.

On September 25, in the absence of President Matty, everyone was welcomed by Bev Jones and ‘500” got underway, played at 5 tables with 18 people and our old friends, Mr. & Mrs. Dummy. At the end of play, Marie-berthe Skerry had the high score of 5420 closely followed by Jim Stevens with 5140 points. Low score honours went to Joyce Mastine. A card was signed for Helen Knowles, who is a hospital patient. Everyone was reminded that membership fees are due.

Each afternoon, a delicious lunch is supplied by the members and enjoyed before returning home. Thanks, all, for your generosity. See you next month, we hope.
