Conference, simulation on refugee experience

- Record Staff

As part of the Sherbrooke Intercultural Encounters Week and as a result of a collaboration between the Jacques-cartier Arts and Culture Committee, and the Brompton Maison des Arts et de la Culture, a conference about life after war, the reality lived in refugee camps, the vagaries of immigration, and resilience through art has been organized at the Françoise Dunn Community and Cultural Center, 2050-B, boul. Portland, Room 003 (next to Montcalm School), Friday, October 27 The conference will begin at 7 p.m.

The next day, Saturday, October 28, the Centre d’éducation Populaire de l’estrie is inviting the population to experience a simulation of a refugee camp in a very emotional event.

Should a disaster forced Sherbrooke residents to leave their homes and enter a refugee camp, what would this temporary camp look like here? As refugees, how would we adapt to this reality? How would we feed, shelter, and feel safe? Could we survive this experience?

The CEP de l'estrie offers an overview of the answer to these questions through an interactive (and immersive) experience, lasting about thirty minutes, in a camp installed on Place de la Cité. Departures from 311 Marquette St. will leave every 15 minutes between noon and 4:30 p.m.

For information on the refugee simulation, Stéphanie Cotnoir / 819 5621466 poste107 / scotnoir@cepestrie.qc.ca and for the conference, Clément Drolet at 819 791-8873 or cacjc@videotron.ca.
