Memphremagog winter parking rules in effect

- Record Staff

The Memphrémagog Police are reminding the public that the regulation on parking on the streets in winter begins today, November 1 at midnight. From now on it will be prohibited to park a vehicle in the street until March 31, according to the following schedule: - Magog: between midnight and 7 am - Orford: at all times

- Austin: between 11 pm and 7 am - Ste-catherine-de-hatley: at all times except on Grand Rue

This regulation is intended to facilitate snow removal and ensure smooth and safe traffic flow for all users, at all times. The regulation applies whether it is snowing or not. In the event that a parked vehicle would be detrimental to snow removal, it could be towed at the expense of the owner. Offending property owners may receive a statement of offense in the amount of $50 + expenses, for a total of $84.

The Régie de Police is encouraging residents to comply immediately with the regulations and to notify visitors in order to avoid being ticketed. There will be a grace period to allow people to get used to the coming into force of the regulations. In case of urgent need only, a vehicle owner can request permission to park on the street for one night by contacting the Régie de police. Depending on weather conditions, this permission may be granted or denied and the owner may be required to move the vehicle overnight if it hinders snow removal work.
