Forum seeks citizen input on diversity, discrimination, and the workplace
As we approach next month’s Diversity and Discrimination Forum, a website has been put online to allow Quebeckers of all backgrounds to express their views on these issues. Citizens can share best practices in employment, training, francization and anti-discrimination. They will also be able to express their stories and experiences, how to promote diversity and fight against discrimination, or propose concrete actions to put in place.
The government tour is aimed at finding concrete and lasting solutions to improve access to employment for immigrants and those of diverse backgrounds and will continue during the month of November in several regions of Quebec. During the first two stops of the tour, in Chaudière-appalaches and Abitibi, many economic, social and community actors spoke about recruitment challenges in the region and about concrete ways to meet the needs of the workforce in the region and the role of immigration.
Complete details of the diversity and anti-discrimination forum will also be available on the website of the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and inclusion in the coming weeks.
"I’m inviting Quebeckers from all backgrounds to take part in this great conversation,” says Minister David Heurtel. “Thanks to your contribution, as well as to all the comments gathered during the tour of the Regions of Quebec that I started last week, we will be able to propose concrete and efficient ways to promote diversity and fight against discrimination. Significant labor needs are being felt in the regions and the solution is to improve the attractiveness and retention of immigrants in the regions. Already several people have shared some interesting solutions adapted to the realities of the area."
The website www.valoriserdiversite.gouv.qc.ca is now online and allows Quebeckers to complete a questionnaire or to submit a testimonial about the promotion of diversity and the fight against discrimination. The deadline to participate is November 30.
A list of non-profit organizations chosen to carry out projects focused on finding concrete solutions to fight against discrimination is also available on the site.
