Bailey Peach and Samuel Poulin will be donning their Sherbrooke Phoenix sweaters once again after representing Canada at the U17 Hockey Challenge in British Columbia.

Although neither of the two Phoenix rookies were able to bring home hardware, both players gained plenty of valuable experience against the fierce international competition.

In the end, team USA led by Jack Hughes won the gold medal against team Canada Red. Hughes had four points (1G, 3A) in the Americans’ 6-4 win.

In the Bronze medal game Samuel Poulin and team Canada White lost to the Czech Republic in a tight game 2-1.

After being ousted in the quarter finals by the eventual silver medalists, Canada Red, Bailey Peach and team Canada Black defeated Sweden, 4-2, to finish seventh overall in the tournament.

Poulin was able to record 3 assists in six games played throughout the tournament. In five games played Peach was unable to get on the scoresheet and recorded four minutes in penalties.

Former Bishop’s College Bear Dawson Mercer also suited up for Canada Black. The Newfoundland native and Drummondville forward scored three goals in five games played.

Tonight, the Phoenix (7-9-4-2) take on the Gatineau Olympiques (10-8-1-1) at the Palais des Sports Léopold-drolet. Gatineau is currently only two points, ahead of the Phoenix in the standings.
