Conditions eased in Richmond attempted murder case
A40-year old Avenir man was back in a Sherbrooke court Wednesday to change some of the conditions of his release.
Éric Bergeron is accused of attempting to kill his ex-spouse's new boyfriend by throwing him off the Richmond’s iconic Mackenzie Bridge. The incident in question took place October 3 on Bridge Street. Armed with a crowbar, Bergeron is alleged to have threatened the victim and struck him a blow. Charges of assault with a weapon and assault were also laid as a result these events.
After threatening the victim, Bergeron ran off but was located and arrested by Sûreté du Québec officers.
In addition to the attempted murder and assault charges, Bergeron has also been charged with uttering death threats against his ex-spouse, her partner, and threatening to burn down their homes.
Bergeron was released after a few days detention after promising to respect several very restrictive conditions. He is forbidden to be in the judicial district of Saint-françois except as part of his criminal case, may not come into contact with the alleged victim, and is subject to a curfew. On Wednesday, he was granted exceptions to his curfew in the context of legitimate paid work. He also has to report to the SQ in Drummondville every week.
Proceedings in this case will resume February 14.
