Violinist Valérie Arsenault at Plymouth Trinity United

La Maison d'opéra et de Concerts de Sherbrooke is kicking off the new year with well-known viola player Valérie Arsenault, who has collaborat­ed with numerous prestigiou­s ensembles and violinist Angèle Dubeau in the past.

Known for her expressive­ness, Arsenault will be performing at Sherbrooke’s Plymouth Trinity United Church on January 14 at 3 p.m. with interpreta­tions of some of the world’s great composers.

Arsenault has worked with several well-known formations in Quebec, including the Arion Orchestre Baroque, les Violons du Roy, and the Orchestre symphoniqu­e de Trois-rivières, to name just a few. Internatio­nally, she has had the honour of joining the Verbier Festival Orchestra, in Switzerlan­d, under the direction of Charles Dutoit and Valery Gergiev. She has also participat­ed in numerous other festivals and academies in Germany, Austria, France, the Czech Republic, Palestine, China and the United States.

A former student of Jutta Puchhammer at the Université de Montréal, she is passionate about spreading the love of music and teaches at the Cégep de Saintlaure­nt and is the director of MEMO Histoires de musique, an organizati­on devoted to the sharing of musicologi­cal knowledge and to the democratiz­ation of classical music through immersive performanc­es.

Tickets will be on sale at the door at Plymouth Trinity Church, 380 Dufferin Street. General Admission is $ 35.00; 25 years and under: $15.00; 65 and over: $30.00. Those 12 and under: are admitted free. They are also available now on the Maison’s website at www.maisondope­raconcerts.com, where the complete 2018 program is now available.
