Townshippers acquire provincial, national awards
Another anniversary went by in 2017 with the 50th year that the Order of Canada recognizing Canadians from all walks of selected as officers of the Order for their own exceptional lives whether work, artistic, business, or political and who are more often very community-minded and people who give back to the place, town, province, and/or country. In the spring of 2017, Louise Penny of TBL received the Order of Canada and more recently Peter Mcauslin of Sutton was made an officer. Penny went on to be awarded the Order of Quebec as well.
There were other accolades received this year including
• Memphremagog Conservation Inc. was awarded the Michel Ledoux prize by the Conseil régional de l’environnement de l’estrie in October for 50 years of enormous contribution in protecting the integrity of the Lake Memphremagog and its surrounding watershed.
• The Penfield family was recognized by MCI for their commitment to the preservation of Lake Memphremagog as well as a large chunk of land in Sargent’s Bay.
• Eastern Townships Bromont Air Show and Aviation Job Fair was nominated by the International Council of Air Shows for a “Pinnacle” award in Las Vegas for its Youth Aerospace Job Fair.
• Free-wheeling received a $10,000 cheque by Quebec’s Minister Lucie Charlesbois when the non-profit organization won “à Part Entière” for exemplary accomplishments which contribute to an increase in the active social participation of individuals with a handicap.
There were others that BCN has not mentioned.
Peter Mcauslan, the founder of St-ambroise ale in 1988, bringing the brewery to a multimillion-dollar business, became an officer for the Order of Canada in autumn 2017.
