Sherbrooke public transportation presents a balanced budget for 2018

- Record Staff

The Sherbrooke Public Transportation Authority (STS) announced yesterday that it deposited a balanced budget for 2018. Public transit users will see no tariff changes until July, when day and monthly passes will see an increase of around 1.3 per cent. The rate of $3.30 for a single trip fare will remain unchanged.

The City of Sherbrooke’s annual contribution to the STS will remain the same as last year at just under $15.2 million. Sherbrooke’s contribution amounts to 45.3 per cent of the funding for public transit.

The balance of the funds come from transit users (30.7 per cent) and government subsidies (24 per cent).

AS of July, a day pass for transit use in Sherbrooke will climb from $10.20 to $10.35. Monthly pass prices will increase from $76.50 to $77.65.

The STS budget has increased its investment in adapted transportation for the coming year by 3.9 per cent in an effort to continue to improve the quality of services provided.

Projects on the table for the coming year include an expansion of the garage, a bus shelter on Boul. René-lévesque, the replacement of six busses and four mini busses in the fleet, a reconfiguration of the bus loop at the University of Sherbrooke and investments in new technology.

According to the STS, 75 per cent of the planned investments will be financed through subsidies from the provincial and federal government.
