Sherbrooke offers new swim safety courses for kids

The City of Sherbrooke is offering two aquatic training courses for children 8 to12-years-old, aimed at developing endurance and swimming technique.

In the first course, participants will learn how to perform a primary examination of a conscious victim, how to communicate with pre-hospital services, how to visually scan an aquatic facility, and how to begin rescue assistance during an emergency.

To take part in this course, participants must be able to swim in deep water without help and to have completed the Junior 5 level. This course lasts for eight weeks, from February 2 to April 6. and costs $65 for Sherbrooke residents and $130 for non-residents.

Bronze star

This is the first bronze level certificate, in which participants will learn about rescue, problem solving and decision making. They will also learn resuscitation skills and skills required to become one’s own rescuer.

To take this course, it is necessary to be at least 11-years-old and to be able to swim over a distance of 100 meters. The program lasts eight weeks, from February 3 to April 7, and costs $65 for residents and $ 130 for non-residents.

Registration

Registration for these courses can be done online at sherbrooke.ca/aquatique on Tuesday, January 16 from noon to 6 p.m. For any questions regarding online registration, it will be possible to speak to an operator at 819-821-5890 during those hours.

It is also possible to register at the Montcalm pool reception desk (access via Fraser Street) on January 18 and 19, and from January 22 to 26 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

For any registration, it is mandatory to fill in the form available on the spot, to present a proof of identity with proof of residence , and the children’s health insurance cards. A full payment (cash, debit or check) is required upon registration.
