Pedestrian struck and killed by suspected drunk driver
A62-year-old man out for a walk with his dog on Sunday evening was struck by a vehicle near 957 de la rue des Jardins-fleuris in Fleurimont.
Both the dog and the man, identified as Royal Leblanc, are dead.
The driver of the vehicle, a 26-yearold Sherbrooke man already known to police, was arrested at the scene. He is currently at the hospital, suffering from shock, according to Sherbrooke Police spokesperson Martin Carrier.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m.
Royal Leblanc was walking his dog near his home when he was hit. The vehicle then continued, coming to a stop after striking a Hydro Sherbrooke pole.
When police arrived on the scene, Carrier said the state of the driver suggested he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He is currently under surveillance at the hospital being treated for shock while police await the results of blood tests.
The driver could face charges of driving with diminished capacity causing death.
It seems the story of Captain Josiah Sawyer and his associates establishing the first villages in the Township of Eaton piqued the interest of quite a few locals.
The production, written, directed and produced by BU student and local Kendra Parnell, sold out its two scheduled performances on Saturday at the Sawyerville Community Centre. A third performance was added on Sunday evening, which also gathered a substantial crowd, according to organizers.
Proceeds from the play benefit The Eaton Corner Museum, which has been sponsoring plays based on the history of the area for several years as fundraisers for the institution.
Settler story, described by some as a blast from the past, included a cast of over 30 local volunteers, who spent countless hours in recent months to bring Parnell’s piece of local history to the stage.
